Introduction of Shande Rice Base

The development of economy and techniques has improved our material life, but it also enables us to face such a situation with unprecedented environmental pollution as well as food security problems. Under this circumstance, how to get safe food has become a severe problem for us. For this reason, Shande Agriculture has committed itself to cultivate genuinely organic rice to supply natural rice for everyone. For our part, “organics” is not merely a goal that needs to be achieved, but also an innate responsibility.

For that, we have been looking for a natural base, a land with unpolluted water and air used for organic rice cropping. It is Qianguo County in Songyuan City of Jilin Province located at 43°of northern latitude with average 2879 sun-shining hours. Therefore, such sunshine and temperature altogether make the land to be a golden area for planting high-quality non-glutinous rice.

For a land that has never been polluted by agricultural chemicals, Shande Rice chose a saline-alkali land that has not been planted for hundreds of years as its base, actually a virgin land. We have adapted advanced techniques to improve the saline-alkali land through comprehensive techniques, such as gypsum, organic fertilizer, humus acid and biological bacteria, which result in turning the virgin land into an unpolluted and fertile farmland for organic rice planting in the same year.

Water without industrial pollution is used from Hadashan Reservoir coming from the upstream of the Songhua River to irrigate organic rice at the base.

At the first phase, the improvable lands of Shande Rice covers an area of 4300mu. In 2015, organic rice planted on improved lands covered an area of 2500mu and in 2016, cultivatable lands have covered an area of 4300mu. It is estimated that cultivatable lands in 2019 will cover an area of 30,000mu, which will finally lead to a “Demonstration District for Organic Rice”. Also, instead, agricultural chemicals, rice-eating ducks and frogs are used together with organic biological agents to wipe out insects by manual weeding, the most primitive means. With severe production and control over organic fertilizers as well as plans of organically raising rice seedlings and breeding seeds, every link is ensured to be genuinely organic.

The Shande Rice Base has been installed with high-standard real-time monitoring systems as well as all-dimensional and high-definition cameras for real-time monitoring into every process of planting to ensure every link of production of organic rice. Also, every rice bag that has passed our detection will be printed with the label signed by the specific planter, thus our rice is traceable, consumers can have it without concern.
